Hotel Casa Blanca

Situated directly opposite the main pier on Charles Darwin Street, Casa Blanca is a medium sized white building with large arched windows and a significant blue dome protruding from its roof. Located above Muana café bar, this three tiered bed and breakfast has a cottage style exterior and in some ways is reminiscent of a fairytale house. Solely family run, this place immediately emits a nice homely feeling as you`re greeted by a friendly and welcoming staff.
Emanating a somewhat earthy feel, attention to detail here is minute and in almost every direction there is some small thing to attract the eye. Chairs and tables are made from natural woods and twisted branches, cute mobiles hang from the ceiling, yellow stars are painted on a deep blue background, mirrors are decorated with shells and silver, beautiful paintings adorn the walls and incense sticks stand in holders ready to burn. Potted plants sit outside doors on the colourful tiled landings, hippy style cushions sit on seats and sarongs are draped tastefully in different places.
Home to only five rooms, each one completely unique with nearly all of the furnishings and paintings designed and hand made by the artistic owner, your stay here is guaranteed to be extra special. Instead of numbers, each has a name. On the first floor are Genovesa, Floreana and Santiago. Genovesa and Santiago have huge extravagant murals of mermaids and sea-life gracing the walls. Floreana has an unusual bathroom adorned with large conch shells that have been covered and coloured in greens and blues. In Isabela, which is situated on the second floor, pretty pink flamingo necks stretch around wooden headboards that are beautifully carved in the shape of butterflies. This room has two single beds and a huge bathroom. The dome, that sits on the roof, is a fantastic room in the shape of in igloo that`s private and has excellent views of both the sea and the city. Inside, light coloured curtains hang down from the four windows that bend around the walls. The interior is painted in light blues, purples and greens with fish swimming round it`s edges and clouds and stars reach up round the ceiling. The bathroom is small but very cute with a rainbow shower curtain and a mirror of stars and shells. Outside, there is plenty of space to sit and admire the views. Each room has hot water, either air-conditioning or a fan and a great sea view.
Also located on the second floor is the well equipped and equally as artistically styled ´guest kitchen´, with a microwave, cooker and coffee maker. It also has a water filtration system so that guests can drink water safely and for free. Outside is a nice veranda with two tables where you can sit and eat whilst looking out on to the ocean or watching the sea-lions playing around the pier. There is also a place where you can relax and read the available books or you can choose to watch a DVD or listen to a selection of music.
In the high season, there is a small Art Gallery open to the public where you can buy paintings. The owners´ brother runs art classes for $25 for three one hour sessions plus a free t-shirt. These only take place if there are a minimum of five or six customers.
