Hotel Restaurant Miconia

Galapagos Hotel Casa Blanca

Mellow music spills out down it's circular steps to lure you in through it's pulled back wooden shutters to a modern and clean downstairs eatery.  It's beige walls are delicately painted with swirling golds and green leaves and it's tables are covered in contrasting pastel blues with stylish placemats.  Tasteful pictures of ocean life hang around and a friendly and welcoming staff offer a great service with a smile. A winding staircase leads you to the more popular upstairs part; a bright and airy deck with colourfully covered tables and fantastic views of the sea.  Potted plants are dotted around the place and white lacy lamps hang from a half circular wooden ceiling.  Cute 3D murals of Galapagos wildlife adorn the walls and a curved bar sits in the centre of the restaurant offering beers, cocktails and the usual selection of soft drinks.  As well as listening to the constant mix of chilled tunes, you will find yourself relaxing to the sound of waves rushing over lava rocks whilst watching sea-lions play around the newly built pier.  All this lends to it's tranquil atmosphere and you'll almost certainly find it hard to leave as you sip away on cappuccino after fantastic cappuccino.

To locate the hotel, walk through the back of the restaurant and into a courtyard where you'll find a small haven from the outside world.  Surrounded by yellow and pink hibiscus flowers that hang down from leafy bushes, you can swing in a hammock or lie on a lounger soaking up the days rays.  If it gets too hot you can cool yourself off in with a dip in the blue pool that has a constant trickle of water running down a small fountain adorned with shells.  You can also choose to sit in the shade of the semi-private Jacuzzi but this hardly looked used at the time of writing.

There are two choices of rooms, either those in a three tiered white building above the gym or a smallish cabaña on the ground floor level.  The rooms are painted in colourful pastels and all have large bathrooms with hot water, air conditioning, televisions and fridges.  Walls are adorned with classy paintings and bedding looks modern, clean and fresh.  Although the rooms are not so big, there is a nice cosy feel about them and in some the owner has added an original touch by designing the curtains or adding a dangling mobile.  Although quite pricey for what's on offer, Miconia seems like a nice place to relax and only a stone's throw from the sea, it might be worth a few days stay.  Also be aware that at this time of writing there was some construction work going on just outside the hotel.  This may be finished by the end of the low season though and this also seems to be happening over most of the Island.
