Hotel Sir Francis Drake

Hotel Sir Francis Drake is home to fifteen rather average rooms, ten of which have hot water. Doubles with hot water cost $30 per night and triples cost $45 a night. Singles cost the same as a double, although this price may possibly be bargained down in the low season. Prices rise in December and January to $45 per night for two sharing
When you first enter the building you’re immediately met with a dark, dank reception area and a gloomy corridor, but upstairs, along a white tiled corridor are some bright clean rooms with air-conditioning, T.V. and good sized bathrooms.
Towels and soap are also provided. Out front is a nice balcony to sit on although the view of the road is not very interesting. With plans to extend business, one side of the building is under construction, although at the time of my visit (October 2006) no-one was working and this ‘eyesore’ of a site was quiet.
The downstairs rooms seemed a little older and darker but had more or less the same facilities as the others.
Sir Francis Drake is conveniently located on Baltra Street, only ten minutes walk from the harbour and next to a myriad of shops and restaurants.
This is good thing as the hotel lacks a guest kitchen or a place to eat. Snorkels and flippers can be rented from the reception for $5 and tours can be arranged by the owners.
